Abstract
The WIMP direct detection event rate (and in particular its annual modulation) depends on the local dark matter distribution and also the Earth's velocity with respect to the Galactic rest frame. I discuss the effect of these astrophysical inputs on the expected WIMP signals, focussing on exclusions limits and the size and phase of the annual modulation signal.
