Abstract

Slovak regional government is soon expecting its fourth elections. This is also the opportunity to compare the local governance in the Slovak Republic. The submitted article is focused to analyse the structure of funding sources in Slovak Higher Territorial Units with an accent to use of the Structural Funds. HTU budgets in the Slovak Republic are characterized generally by very low percentage of EU funding (moving around 1%). In the correlation analysis we find whether there is a correlation between the change in the composition of the council and HTU success in obtaining resources from the EU. This paper seeks an answer to the question whether the ending regional representations were more successful in obtaining external finance than their predecessors established in 2005. And if its success depends on their composition or the certain regions are more successful regardless of the composition of their regional parliaments.
