Abstract

Geopolitical changes triggered by the fail of the Iron Curtain gave the start to the rearrangement of the global centres of power and influence. In the new world order the influence of, until then, marginal states increased. This article aims to explore how the emergence of Brazil and the development of Mercosur influenced not only the economy of the entire South American continent, but also the global one. Furthermore, the advance of Mercosur is not felt only at the economic level, the group also being an element of stability across the continent.
