Abstract
Recording media are easier to record if the write field is applied at an angle to the easy axis owing to the angle dependence of the switching field. It is shown that both record modes, longitudinal and perpendicular recording, inherently use this angle effect. For perpendicular recording, a wide Monte-Carlo study indicates that the optimum performance is relatively insensitive to the field angle and optimizes in the range of 15-20°.
