Abstract
Magnetic field generated by low carbon steel specimens during crack propagation and fracture has been discussed in this paper. Different specimen cross-section viz. cylindrical, square, rectangular, and thin sheet have been considered for the investigation. Magnetic field generated have been found to be strongly dependent on the degree of necking. Cylindrical specimens, which undergo large necking, show more magnetic fields generated than sheets/strips, which undergo less necking.
