Abstract
The design of a charge breeder consisting of a surface ion source coupled to a dual frequency 14 and 10Â GHz Electron Cyclotron Resonance ion-source (ECRIS) is presented. The simulations show that the decelerated 1+ beam could be focused to a spot size smaller than the radial dimensions of the plasma using a gradual deceleration scheme. A high capture and 1+ân+ conversion efficiency could be possible for radioactive ions using this design.
