Abstract
A set of Ce3+-doped and undoped YAP and Y-LuAP scintillating crystals were submitted to γ and neutron irradiations to be characterized in terms of radiation hardness. Their radiation-induced response was probed by transmission measurements, by which the radiation-formed colour centres were identified. A recharge mechanism of Ce3+ ions in the crystals has been detected and a possible way to improve the crystal radiation hardness has been discussed.
