Abstract
This paper presents the first full translation into English of the German geographer Friedrich Ratzel's 1901 essay Lebensraum: a biogeographical study. The translation is accompanied by a Translator's Note by Tul'si Bhambry, identification of the scholars and works cited by Ratzel, and it forms the basis for a set of interpretations of Ratzel's essay and its subsequent influence.
