Abstract
This article aims at verifying the spatial configuration of economic activity in MedellÃn, Colombia, from 2005-2010. With this objective in mind it characterizes seven economic activities in reference to the development strategy called “MedellÃn ciudad cluster”. It makes use of the framework provided by the urban economics, statistical tools, spatial econometrics (Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) and cluster analysis) and information provided by SubsecretarÃa de Catastro. The analysis concludes that there are spacial structures defined by the economic activities analyzed, for example, a polycentric structure for the services sector with two specialized nodes and evidence of the process of forming a new development node in the north of the city. There is also a differentiated spatial distribution for the industry.
