Abstract
► This paper examines what the public knows about banking supervision using a survey among Dutch households. ► Knowledge about micro-prudential supervision is far from perfect. ► Respondents often expect more from supervisors than they can realistically deliver. ► Better knowledge about supervision is related to more realistic opinions about banking supervision. ► Communication policies of banking supervisors should aim to improve public knowledge about banking supervision.
