Abstract

Interconnections between tourism environments, the action of guides, and the experiences of tourists have not been studied thoroughly yet. This article examines the ways in which the forest is produced as an environment that suits the tourism industry. The conceptual investigation of tourist practices focuses on discussions related to pre-reflexivity, orientation towards creative action, and the role of the environment. The conceptual examination is reflected on the practices of guides and foreign tourists in Finnish Lapland. The theoretical discussion may help us understand better the links between the policies of the industry and the changes in the environments.
