Abstract
The investigation on the effect of geometry of combustor on combustion characteristics of solid fuel ramjet (SFRJ) with swirl flow by numerical and experimental approaches is presented. Experiments were conducted on connected pipe facility for ignition of a solid fuel ramjet using high-density Polyethylene (HDPE) as solid fuel. The length of combustion chamber and port diameter of solid fuel are varied independently. An in-house code has been developed to explore the flow features with chemical reactions in the combustion chamber. The obtained results show that both the temperature in recirculation zone and the distance of flame surface to fuel surface in redevelopment zone could be reduced significantly with the decreasing of the chamber length. On the other hand, decreasing the port diameter can increase the temperature of flame surface, enhance the local heat transfer and regression rate in the redevelopment zone. Besides, the average regression rate is increased with decreasing the length of combustion chamber and port diameter.
