Abstract
Ectopic pancreas (heterotopic) is a rare developmental anomaly with presence of usually well-developed pancreatic tissue, remaining without anatomic or vascular connection with the proper organ. In most cases, the anomaly occurs without clinical symptoms. The authors present two cases of symptomatic ectopic pancreas with different clinical course, treated laparoscopically. The first case, a 14-year-old female, was operated with suspicion of GIST, the second, a 16-year-old female, presented symptoms of acute abdomen and was suspected of appendicitis. Authors discuss the current literature on this anomaly. In conclusion authors emphasize the need to consider ectopic pancreas in the differential diagnosis in children with non-specific symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract and abdominal pain.
