Abstract
Pseudomembranous colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease, which is the most severe type of CDI (Clostridium difficile infection). The most important risk factor of infection is antimicrobial therapy. It can be diagnosed macroscopically during endoscopy or operation of digestive system (“pseudomembranes” on the mucosa) or in histopathological examination biopsy of intestine (microscopically). The clinical manifestation includes watery-mucous diarrhea, abdominal pains and fever. Laboratory tests often include high leukocytosis or leukopenia, hypoalbuminemia, and elevated serum creatinine. Drugs of first choice include metronidazol and vankomycin.
