Abstract
Ozone is an important component of air pollution. This review presents the negative impact of ozone air pollution on the respiratory system in children, including the induction and maintenance of inflammation in the airways and exacerbation of respiratory diseases. The relationship between the occurrence of exposure to elevated ozone concentrations and the prevalence of asthma in the context of selected genetic polymorphisms also are described. The possibilities of interventions to reduce exposure to ozone are discussed.
