Abstract
1. The percentage of children exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life is lower than recommended. 2. The risk factors shortening the breastfeeding period were: prematurity, the lack of proper techniques of breastfeeding in hospital. 3. The factors affecting breastfeeding positively were: breastfeeding older children as recommended, attending pre-delivery courses and having high education. Short duration of breastfeeding is a risk factor of infant illness rate and hospitalization.
