Abstract
Secondary thrombocytosis occurs in nearly 5% of hospitalized children, while essential thrombocythemia is a very rare disease of childhood. There are no recommendations for routine prophylaxis with thrombolytic agents or inhibitors of platelet aggregation in secondary thrombocytosis.
