Abstract
Neonates, especially born preterm, are at high risk of infection during the perinatal period. The developing immune system is naturally suppressed during pregnancy, because its activation could have consequences such as preterm birth or even fetus death. The immunity of a newborn is particularly based on innate responses, the adaptive response develops later. The immune system needs time to develop its proper function, and this adaptive period may be more complicated in preterm infants.
