Abstract
Blood cultures (2632) taken from children hospitalized in 6 wards of Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw, in the years 2007-2008 were studied using BacT/Alert 60 monitoring system. In all 2632 blood cultures were taken, of which 466 were positive (17.7%). Gram -positive cocci were the most frequently isolated bacteria (72%), MRCNS strains were dominated. Gram - negative rods, mainly Enterobacteriaceae, were isolated in 14.8% of cases, non-fermenters - in 3.6%, yeast - in 2.2%. The strains with ESBL mechanism were isolated in 14.6% of Enterobacteriaceae rods.
