Abstract
1) This study confirms that meningococci are still a cause of severe infections especially in children under 5 years of age. The majority of cases were caused by meningococci of serogroup B (44.4%)and C (47.2%). 2) A PCR technique showed to be the most useful for the identification of the etiological agent of meningitis. 3) Common usage of vaccination against meningococci in the first year of life can decrease morbidity for invasive meningococcal diseases.
