Abstract
Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is one of the most often chronic diseases in children. There is a growing prevalence of diabetes observed worldwide. Insulin deficiency leads to polydipsia, polyuria and body mass loss in more than 90% of cases. In children, clinical manifestation of diabetes develops in period from several days to even several months. Similarly, intensification of symptoms varies from asymptomatic, diagnosed by chance, up to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). One of the suggested causes of DKA is a diagnosis delay. Therefore, awareness of the possibility of T1DM evolution in children must be higher among people and medical staff. The aim of this paper was to report chosen cases, where diagnosis of T1DM was difficult and delayed.
