Abstract
In 2008-2009, 18 014 bacteriological cultures were performed, from patients hospitalised in clinics of the Institute of Mother and Child. Frequency of β-haemolytic streptococci in selected wards, and sensitivity to certain antibiotics were analysed. β-haemolytic streptococci were cultured from 511 samples (2.84% of all cultures), Streptococcus agalactiae was dominated (357 isolates), Streptococcus pyogenes was isolated from 120 samples. Streptococcus agalactiae strains were in 100% sensitive to ampicillin and to penicillin, to nitrofurantoin and to chloramphenicol in 98%, to erythromycin and to clindamycin in 74%. Sensitivity of Streptococcus pyogenes was similar.
