Abstract
⺠Marine biotechnology has matured into a sector delivering useful drugs based on marine chemistry following a thirty-year period of development. ⺠This success is built upon the incredible diversity of the marine habitat. ⺠Marine organisms have provided the molecular tools to drive analytical biotechnology from thermostable polymerases to new fluorescent protein markers. ⺠The next generation of analytical methods will be those methods that provide biochemical and physiological information to enhance and extract meaning from the current glut of difficult to interpret sequence data.
