Abstract
⺠Top-down systems approaches rapidly generate putative biological models. ⺠Statistical associations and causative abstractions are unavoidable, but useful. ⺠Molecular and mechanistic details improve model selection and applicability. ⺠Models of transcription and translation are becoming increasingly mechanistic. ⺠'Multi-scale' models are applicable to new scientific questions and engineering goals.
