Saccharification of agar using hydrothermal pretreatment and enzymes supplemented with agarolytic β-galactosidase

- Agar was pretreated using 20 mM (0.3%, w/v) Tris-HCl (pH 7.5) at 170 °C for 10 min.
- Monomeric sugar yields of ∼45% were obtained by hydrolysis of pretreated agar.
- Additional use of agarolytic β-galactosidase increased final sugar yields.
