Abstract
► Xylitol can be efficiently biosynthesized using Debaryomyces hansenii immobilized in polymer matrices. ► Electron micrographs reveal the generation of dense biofilms with hyphal morphology on beads surface. ► Corncobs hydrolyzates and vinasses can be used as feedstock for xylitol production. ► Microaerobical conditions enhanced the formation of xylitol.
