Abstract
⺠EPA is an Ï3 polyunsaturated fatty acid beneficial to human health. ⺠Microorganisms provide an alternative source for this essential fatty acid. ⺠This review presents the de novo biosynthetic pathway for EPA in microorganisms. ⺠Metabolic engineering strategies to improve EPA productivity are also discussed.
