Abstract
This paper provides an overview about today's use of zeolites and related microporous materials as catalysts within the fields of refining, petrochemistry and commodity chemicals. The content of this presentation is devoted to gas phase catalysis-with focus on acid catalysis, hydrocarbon conversion and formation, oil and natural gas upgrading as well as catalytic probe reactions for the characterisation of zeolites and related microporous materials. The review is primarily meant for beginners who intend to get acquainted with this field. However, for more detailed information the interested reader is invited to consult the dedicated papers cited throughout this overview.
