Abstract
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a powerful tool used for a wide range of simulations for industry processes and agricultural operations that typically involve some sort of fluid flows. In this application note, we demonstrated how we employed a commercial CFD package (FLUENT® 6.0 with GAMBIT® 2.0) to set up a prediction model of the solute concentration distribution in the liquid boundary layer of a slit pervaporation membrane channel and verified the numerical methodology with the analytical solution to a classic diffusion problem. The general principle of our approach is applicable to any mass transfer simulation with commercial CFD software packages.
