Abstract
The synthesis, characterization and electrochemical properties of the new microcrystalline material NiOOH are described. This material was prepared by precipitation from NaClO-NaOH solutions and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, electron microscopy, TG-DSC, chemical analysis and electrochemical studies. The electrode composed of NiOOH provides 70% higher energy capacity (267 mAh gâ1 at 1.60 V) than conventional alkaline manganese electrodes (219 mAh gâ1 at 1.15 V) at galvanic current of 60 mA gâ1 down to a cell voltage of 1.0 V (vs. Zn/ZnO). The material exhibits a high discharge capacity with good reversibility under galvanostatic current charge/discharge test.
