Abstract
This exploration of early-stage, architectural design pedagogy is a record of an ongoing transformation underway in architecture from the art of geometry of space to the art of geometry of space-time. A selected series of student experiments, from 1992 to the present, illustrates this transformation from Pythagorean concepts of mathematics and geometry to the symbolic representation of space and non-linear time. The time concepts, native to film, have been adapted to the architectural medium to create an added design dimension. The dimensional expansion of space, from xyz to xyz+t (time), represents a tactical and strategic opportunity to incorporate multisensory design variables in architectural practice, as well as in its pedagogy.
