Abstract
⺠Mastery goals were assumed to buffer the relations between self-handicapping and its determinants. ⺠Individuals' self-esteem was less related to self-handicapping when students strongly emphasized mastery goals. ⺠High mastery goals diminish the relation between performance-avoidance goals and self-handicapping.
