Abstract
► In Over-Claiming Questionnaires (OCQs) respondents rate their familiarity with knowledge items. ► Some of these items exist in reality (reals), others do not (foils). ► We investigated the usefulness of the OCQ as a measure of cognitive abilities. ► Self-reported knowledge in the OCQ is positively related to measures of ability. ► It also reflects over-claiming to a large extent.
