Abstract
► Systematic comparison of different cellulose nanofibrils in multilayer formation. ► Nonelectrostatic interactions were decisive in build-up of cellulosic multilayers. ► Native, unmodified NFC was also successfully used in multilayers. ► The underlying cationic layer affected the interactions between NFC fibrils.
