Modification of precipitated calcium carbonate with cellulose esters and use as filler in papermaking

- A novel procedure for the synthesis of cellulose derivative-modified PCCs is proposed.
- New PCC-based materials containing ca. 10 wt% of cellulose esters were produced.
- With the new PCCs as fillers in papermaking, the tensile and tear indexes improved.
- With the new PCCs as fillers in papermaking, the optical properties were not affected.
