Abstract
► We investigated personality correlates of helping behavior (pointing out a temporary flaw). ► Higher embarrassability predicted slower helping in a laboratory study. ► Higher embarrassability was associated with reduced likelihood of intervention in real-world helping situations. ► Personality factors (avoidance motivations) can predict who will be inhibited from helping.
