Abstract
⺠Seven types of user producer interaction (UPI) are identified. ⺠UPI occurs in technology development regardless of type of technology. ⺠Discrete and system technologies require feedback and first user enrolment. ⺠Configurational technologies require downstream innovation and feedback. ⺠UPI based selection can justify the lock into inflexible technology.
