Abstract
► We apply a novel methodology toward uncovering personality response intent. ► The predominant orientation when selecting the middle category is “it depends”. ► Middle category intent has stronger associations with items than respondents. ► Traditional scoring with ambiguous items may result in personality scale attenuation.
