Abstract
⺠The article examines intra-individual variation of survey response styles. ⺠A mixed-mode panel design is used to study change in extreme response behavior. ⺠A latent class transition model separates stable and volatile respondents. ⺠Extreme response style was stronger in mail-back than in face-to-face surveys. ⺠Ideological extremity and low education correlate with response style change.
