Abstract
⺠We examine the relationship between patent quality and ownership through a sample of UK academic patents. ⺠Patents owned by companies receive more citations in the first years after the filing. ⺠The change of ownership is an indicator of patent quality. ⺠Among individual characteristics, researcher's scientific quality appears slightly correlated with patent quality.
