Abstract
⺠Role of coal in Turkish energy strategy was evaluated. ⺠Coal is regarded as the most important indigenous energy source in Turkey. ⺠Turkey may have obstacles due to use of coal reserves on the way to the EU. ⺠Obstacles are; CO2 emissions, lack of CCS applications, and health-safety issues. ⺠Turkey should develop new policies and set realistic targets towards coal.
