Abstract
⺠We analyse purchasing strategies & tools of Western European and North American companies. ⺠The comparative analysis is based on a study of 224 companies from ten countries. ⺠Europeans emphasise price reductions& total cost of ownership as strategic objectives. ⺠North Americans show higher emphasis towards social and ethical guidelines. ⺠A major part of purchases takes place in home countries and close-by regions.
