Abstract
This paper compares alliance activity in Europe and the USA. By studying alliance experience and the quality of alliance management in both regions, insight is obtained into the effectiveness of companies in both regions in dealing with alliances. The USA has surpassed Europe both in number of alliances and in the quality of alliance management. American companies have implemented more alliance management techniques than European companies. Further anecdotal evidence and some long-term trends in the European economy suggest that Europe may be catching up soon.
