Abstract
⺠We analyze the commitment, growth and failure of international new ventures (INVs). ⺠Among INVs, 'global start-ups' behavior is consistent with a sprinkler entry strategy. ⺠Global start-ups show a strong initial and rapidly growing international commitment. ⺠Geographically focused start-ups show features of a less committed waterfall strategy. ⺠The high failure rate of INVs results primarily from 'liability of newness' problems.
