Abstract
The reaction of Cu(OAc)2 · H2O with bpa (bpa = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane) in CH3OH afforded the complex [Cu2(OAc)4(bpa) · 2H2O]n (1) while the reaction of CuSO4 · 5H2O with bpen (bpen = trans-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene) in CH3OH afforded the complex [Cu(bpen)(H2O)3(SO4) · 4H2O]n (2). Complexes 1 and 2 form molecular chains which, linking by C-Hâ¯Ï, Ï-Ï interactions and hydrogen bondings, line up in layers with each layer crossing the layer beneath to form rhombic channels. Thermal gravimetric analyses and differential scanning calorimetry were carried out to investigate their thermal properties.
