Abstract
⺠The mechanism of diffusion in the surface layer of chalcohalide glasses due to oxidation has been established. ⺠The origin of chemical aging in chalcohalide glasses has been clarified. ⺠Both physical and chemical aging deteriorate the hardness of chalcohalide glasses. ⺠Anionic diffusion processes are the main factor declining the hardness of chalcohalide glasses.
