Abstract
► During glass-batch melting, solid silica exhibits dissolution retardation. ► During the silica lifetime, the rate of dissolution can decrease hundred times. ► This inhibition is attributed to the irregular spatial distribution of particles. ► A retardation factor was introduced to quantify the retardation extent. ► The retardation factor compares the measured rate with an “ideal” case.
