Abstract
⺠The angular distribution of tidal heating is a linear combination of three basic patterns. ⺠Each pattern depends on the tidal potential while its weight depends on the internal structure. ⺠A first type of pattern is due to mantle dissipation. ⺠Two other types of patterns are due to dissipation in a thin or thick soft layer. ⺠The pattern in a thin floating icy shell is independent of rheology.
