► GSM induces age dependent changes in neuro-immunity, stress and behavior. ► Middle-aged rats show GSM-induced IL-1β increase. ► Middle-aged rats show enhanced freezing response following GSM exposure. ► Young adult rats show GSM-induced plasmatic corticosterone increase. ► None of these effects were linked to a GSM-induced astrocytes activation.
