Abstract
► Manganese (Mn) is required for normal cellular function. ► Excessive Mn may cause a disease resembling Parkinson's disease (PD). ► Mn and Fe homeostasis is regulated by shared transporters. ► SLC30A10 is putatively involved in Mn efflux. ► Patients with the SLC30A10 mutation display Parkinsonian-like symptoms.
